Cloth: $25.00

The prose poems in Poemas De Las Madres illustrate perfectly Mistral's sense of sisterhood with all women-none more binding than with women fortunate enough to have borne children. We read her almost uncanny sense of empathy in "What Will He Be Like?," sense the gravid weight of her unborn child in "Sensitive" - 'I'm like a branch heavy with fruit' - share her mother-to-be's fears in "Tell Me, Mother." These moments are made even more bittersweet when we hear behind them and through them Mistral's grief over the teenage suicide of the nephew she adopted when he was a child.
